Northwest Super School

A new super school, due to open September 2008, will be one of the most environmentally - friendly colleges in the country.

Pendle Vale College, part of the Building Schools for the Future, will have energy saving technology including:

  • A boiler fuelled by wood chips
  • Rainwater harvesting
  • Ground source heat pumps - to heat the swimming pool
  • A natural ventilator system for the classrooms.

This will make it one of the most energy efficient buildings in Britain, according to council bosses.
