The Climate Change Unit was established in October 2007 to co-ordinate the delivery of the programme of work contained in the regional climate change action plan "Rising To The Challenge".

The Climate Change Unit is staffed by the North West Development Agency and secondees from the North West Regional Assembly and Government Office North West. The Environment Agency also lends support.
